Tropical Ice Boxes – Care & Usage FAQs

How long will this ice box keep contents cold?

It depends on how you pack it, the weather, and how often it’s opened.

With the right prep, your Tropical Ice Box will keep contents colder for longer — and can hold ice for days. Packing it tight, limiting lid openings, and keeping it in the shade will all help maximise performance.

Built for Aussie conditions — how you pack it makes the difference.

Why does keeping my ice box in the shade matter?

Keeping your ice box in the shade makes a noticeable difference:

  • Keeps contents colder for longer
  • Reduces internal heat build-up
  • Helps maintain the shape of the ice box over time

It’s a simple way to get the most out of your ice box — especially in hot Australian conditions.

Can I leave my ice box in the sun?

Tropical Ice Boxes are built for tough Australian conditions and handle regular outdoor use with ease.

When camping, fishing, or on the job, we recommend keeping your ice box in the shade where possible. This helps maximise ice retention and maintain the shape of the box over time.

Like any high-performance plastic product, extended exposure to heat over long periods can cause minor changes in shape. Storing your ice box out of direct sun when not in use will help keep it performing at its best.

How should I store my ice box when not in use?

For best long-term performance:

  • Store your ice box out of direct sunlight
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place where possible
  • Avoid placing heavy weight on the lid for extended periods
  • Store with the lid slightly ajar to allow airflow, reduce moisture build-up, and help protect the seal
  • Use the plastic tabs under the lid to help protect the seal during storage and when stacking

Before using your ice box, make sure the tabs are removed so the lid can fully seal.

These simple steps will help maintain shape, seal integrity, and overall performance.

Can I use it for food storage?

Yes — Tropical Ice Boxes are made from food-grade materials, making them suitable for storing food and drinks.

For best results, we recommend keeping food sealed or in containers and packing your ice box efficiently to maintain consistent temperatures.

Can I use dry ice?

Yes — Tropical Ice Boxes are suitable for use with dry ice. They’re built with durable, food-grade materials that can handle extreme cold. If you’re using dry ice, we recommend:

  • Wrapping the dry ice in newspaper or cardboard to slow sublimation.
  • Avoiding direct skin contact (always use gloves).
  • Allowing for ventilation when transporting, as dry ice releases CO₂ gas.
Does it come with straps, rubber feet, or a drain plug?

Each Tropical Ice Box is built with features suited to its size:

  • T10 – Compact with a heavy-duty webbing strap. Lid is completely removable. No rubber feet or drain plug.
  • T25 – Includes a webbing strap and side handles. Fixed hinged lid with the reinforced super hinge. No rubber feet or drain plug.
  • T35 – Larger size with side carry handles and fixed hinged lid with super hinge. No rubber feet or drain plug.
  • T52 -T200 – Feature fixed hinged lids with the super hinge, carry handles, plus rubber feet and a drain plug for easy emptying.
  • All standard models (up to T160) – Come with our tough loop-and-button lid system and reinforced super hinge (except the T10 & T25 which uses dual lid loops).

👉 This way, you can quickly see which model has the setup that works best for you.

What are the ice boxes made from?

Tropical Ice Boxes are built from durable one-skin polyethylene with 5mm thick insulation, UV protection, and food-grade materials.

What warranty comes with Tropical Ice Boxes?

We don’t just sell you an ice box. We back it with a 10-year manufacturing warranty — one of the longest in the industry.

Why? Because we know it’s built to last.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the ice box body and lid.

Wear items such as handles, hinges, loops, buttons, straps, rubber feet, drain bungs, seals and stickers etc are considered replaceable parts and are not covered under the warranty.
