Koastal Ice Boxes – Care & Usage FAQs
Can I leave my ice box in the sun?
Koastal Ice Boxes are built for tough Australian conditions and handle regular outdoor use with ease.
When fishing, at the beach, or out on the reef, we recommend keeping your ice box in the shade where possible. This helps maximise ice retention and maintain the shape of the box over time.
Like any high-performance plastic product, extended exposure to heat over long periods can cause minor changes in shape. Storing your ice box out of direct sun when not in use will help keep it performing at its best.
Why does keeping my ice box in the shade matter?
Keeping your ice box in the shade makes a noticeable difference.
- Helps keep contents colder for longer
- Reduces internal temperature build-up
- Helps keep the shape of the ice box
It’s a simple way to get the most out of your ice box, especially in hot Australian conditions.
How long will this ice box keep contents cold?
It depends on how you pack it, the weather, and how often it’s opened.
With the right prep, your Koastal Ice Box will keep contents colder for longer — and can hold ice for days. Keeping it packed tight, limiting how often it’s opened, and storing it in the shade will all help maximise performance.
Built for Aussie conditions, it’s designed to deliver reliable cold storage — how you pack it makes the difference.
How should I store my ice box when not in use?
For best long-term performance:
- Store your ice box out of direct sunlight
- Keep it in a cool, dry place where possible
- Avoid placing heavy weight on the lid for extended periods
- Store with the lid slightly ajar to allow airflow and help protect the seal
These simple steps will help maintain shape, seal integrity, and overall performance.
Can I use it for food storage?
Absolutely. Every Koastal Ice Box is made from food-grade materials and is safe for storing food, drinks, bait, and temperature-sensitive medical supplies when packed correctly.
Can I use dry ice?
Yes — Koastal Ice Boxes are suitable for use with dry ice. They’re built with durable, food-grade materials that can handle extreme cold. If you’re using dry ice, we recommend:
- Wrapping the dry ice in newspaper or cardboard to slow sublimation.
- Avoiding direct skin contact (always use gloves).
- Allowing for ventilation when transporting, as dry ice releases CO₂ gas.
What are the ice boxes made from?
Koastal Ice Boxes are built from durable one-skin polyethylene with thick 4.5mm closed-cell foam insulation, UV protection, and food-grade materials designed for tough marine and outdoor conditions.
Commercial Range (200L+)
Our extra-large commercial ice boxes (200L to 1100 litres) are designed for serious fishing, commercial operations, and situations where maximum cold storage is required.
Due to their size and specialised applications, these larger models are typically supplied on a pre-order basis.
Please contact us for availability, pricing, and lead times.
What warranty comes with Koastal Ice Boxes?
We back Koastal Ice Boxes with a 5-year manufacturing warranty.
Why? Because they’re built for tough marine and outdoor conditions.
The warranty covers manufacturing defects in the ice box body and lid.
Wear items such as handles, hinges, loops, buttons, straps, rubber feet, drain bungs, seals and stickers are considered replaceable parts and are not covered under the warranty.
